Before the series began, Jefferson was believed to be one of the players who could help the New Jersey Nets engineer an upset of the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals. The second-year forward was averaging 14.4 points through the first three rounds of the playoffs and gave the Nets a third option that the Spurs did not seem to have. Ticket master.
But Jefferson has struggled mightily in the Finals. Guarded on occasion by premier defender Bruce Bowen, he is averaging 9.7 points - fifth on the team - while making just 35.5 percent (11-of-31) from the field. Ticket master.
"I'm trying to have an impact on the game," Jefferson said Monday, a day after scoring just six points in an 84-79 loss. "Last game, I couldn't hit a shot, but I tried to do other things, try to rebound, try to defend. I understand in order for this team to be a contender, I'm gonna have to score points."
